i'll be updating the website soon and i have a new blog in the works.
eek!
i am so excited about all of these changes, i can not sleep.
eek!
i'm dreaming about some of my latest sweet sessions, one specific session that's just around the corner, photo-shop and background colors for my blog.
eek!

there are also a few other changes going on right now...

prices are changing, some going up (not too much for now though) and some going down (like my senior sessions)
there will now be a minimum purchase requirement of $100 for lifestyle portraiture sessions and $300 for senior sessions.
I can not continue to offer special deals or discounts except for those that may be run occasionally as promotions
session fees will now be due when you book your session instead of the day of your session. this can either be paid by mailing a check or by paying by credit card online. if your session fee is not received within 4 days of booking your session, your date is open to others.
and sunday sessions will no longer be offered

I hope you understand, some thing just gotta be done! :)

Alaynee Fink Class of 2011

I was flattered in February when I received a special email from Miss Alaynee!
A few of her friends had come to me last year for their senior pics and she had loved them. She said, "I kept you in the back of my mind and waited a year for it to finally be my turn!"
Well her turn has arrived!

Meet Alaynee… the first of my 2011 seniors! Alaynee will be a senior this fall at Madison High JR/SR High School.

We had a blast shooting the first of her senior sessions last week. We got some really great shots… you looked incredible!!

I asked Alaynee to tell me about herself and this was her opening sentence; "I am very unique; I'm a teenager who actually loves antique shopping, gardening, broccoli, and listening to oldies. I probably should have been born like 60 years ago... I love vintage things and history in general."
I knew from that moment on that she and I were going to have lots of fun!!!!
This was just our mini spring sesh, and I already have way too many favorites!

(She also loves all things Taylor Swift- so we used Miss Taylor for some great inspiration)

She really listened to all of the advise given for accessories and style! This could be one of my top fav shoots of all time! U nailed it girl!

This handsome prince was full of spunk (don't let his heart melting smile, and seemingly peaceful snoozin shots fool u). I've never worked with a newborn with such strength and their own agenda... This little guy could pick his head up and put it where he wanted it, and even roll himself over if on any sort of incline!!!!!! He had the major wiggles and preferred to cat nap in between feedings and snuggles with Momma. We had to be fast, but nailed it every time!

Whoa, Where did the Time Go?

Well in case you all are wondering I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth. Though if you've been checking in on the blog or even facebook it may seem like it. I am very much still alive. I've been in and out of Ohio, completely consumed with life (health, friends, family, and church)! -Not to mention the untimely death of my laptop that took me completely offline (and unable to edit) for almost 2 weeks. But I'm back! However, my new decade resolution was to spend less time online and more time in the world (but not of the world). I am still a web junkie, and have to spend several hours editing a week; I've just had to implement a "work" schedule! Out of respect to my marriage and recognizing I need to sometimes take a little me time, I'll be doing business Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 9am-5pm. Saturday and Sunday sessions will be offered with limited availability and at a higher premium. All voice mails, texts or emails received on the weekends will be returned during normal business hours M-F.

I apologize to those of you who were put on hold, had long waits and return times, and were ignored during my absence!

I'm excited to have a fresh plan, for all parties involved, and I look forward to a fun successful rest of the year!

GIVING BACK...

I understand that custom photography is a LUXURY! And during these difficult times, for some, luxury just isn't an option. That's why I've decided I would like, a few times a year, to give back. It's a way for me to bless a family that may otherwise not be able to have such an opportunity.
I'm looking for a local family that would benefit from a free photography session and cd/dvd of images (a $450.00 value). Do you know of a family dealing with a severe or terminal illness, perhaps a baby in the NICU or just out of the NICU, maybe a child in the Children’s Hospital or something similar to this? Send me your stories! Pass this on to others you know so they too can enter their stories.
Please send your entry to jamielynn@missjphotography.com If you have a picture of the person or family to include with the story please due so (but a picture is not required). I will post the picture when I announce the winner!

I had the opportunity to shoot a fabulous maternity session in the snow! C & A were such a fun loving couple, up for anything... and I do mean anything! I have way too many favorites to share them all, but snow angels and cheerleading hurkeys are amongst the few that didn't make the blog! The wintery cold hit us hard today, esp poor Chad, but we were rewarded with beautiful belly pictures ;) Enjoy Amanda! (And go to bed! lol)

Rock-Paper-Scissors

As soon as these 2 sat down and we started talking, I knew I wanted to shoot their wedding. They are such a fun couple! S+A they knew exactly what they were looking for! They didn't want the traditional style for their wedding day. And, that' s why they chose me! Typically the guys tag along and listen to all the girls dreams and desires for every perfect detail, but "A" was just as excited as "S". I love it when my clients want to be involved in the creative vision of their session. "A" is a fellow artist and even personally designed their save the date cards for the engagement pictures.
Prior to our appointment, "S" sent a list of must have shots for our recent e-session and we had a blast checking them off as we went along! I'm so happy with the results! Meet S+A :)

We ended our session with a friendly game of Rock Paper Scissors. It's a little game they play when they can't reach a decision so we thought it fitting to include in their session :)

Health Update and Quick Teaser

To say that this week has been rough would be an understatement! I have been sick. VERY sick. I caught the dreaded H1N1. And it has really taken it's tole. My blog and editing had to be pushed to the back-burner and several appointments had to be rescheduled. To those of you that were directly affected by this MEAN flu, thank you so much for working with me.

I'm not quite back to my old self YET, but today is the best I've felt in a week. So I'm laying here all snuggled in with my meds, box of tissues, my fur-babies, and the laptop. I can't take it anymore. I must edit!

Please say a prayer for me. I'd be so grateful! And, good health can't come soon enough, because I have an incredible wedding to shoot this weekend. And I miss "my" kiddos at church! I'm ready to return!

Here is a quick teaser for S+A. We got together for their E session just before my illness completely set in. I'm anxious to post the full preview! What a fun couple. More to come soon.

Family Fun!

This family came for some fall photos with their newest little one! He is now 6 months old and just as cute as could be. Mom packed his Halloween costume and I just loved it. He was the sweetest elephant I'd ever met! Both sets of grandparents also came out to play that day! This little guy isn't ever gonna be short on hugs and kisses!

I had the pleasure of working with the Seiter kids this past summer and we had such a great time! (view previous session here http://missjphotography.blogspot.com/2009/08/busy-bee-and-her-handsome-bro.html) But on this day, they brought mom and dad along for the fun! "Mom" had called me to let me know she knew the perfect location for their fall family session, and man was she right! It was perfect! And the weather was on our side. We thought we might be doing the session all bundled up in matching coats, but Mr Sun graced us with his light! We were so thankful! We ran around and chased the kiddos for a couple of hours and ended up with some great images! I hope you enjoy your set of sneak peeks!

Molli Class of 2010

Another fun session with a 2010 Senior Graduate.
This is Molli. Molli and I hadn't ever met before, but she found me through a few mutual friends. I remember the first email she sent asking me if I'd do her senior pictures. I was very excited and felt so honored. Molli is beautiful girl inside and out! She brought along some great clothing options (not all shown in this peek) that complimented the location we chose very well. We decided to stick with the natural elements of a local park. We had tried to meet up earlier in the month but had been rained out. But on this particular day, the weather was perfect; sunny, warm, and even a little breezy. The wind provided a "modeling fan" for a few shots.

Class of 2010 Senior Megan

Meet Senior Jenna, Class of 2010

I met with Jenna this weekend for senior cuts. We had a great time! I've never had a more organized client than she! Jenna lives about 3 1/2 hours away, so she and her momma had the challenging job of scouting locations for our session. Well I was very impressed! She showed up with a detailed list of locations as well as what to wear at each spot! She made my job very fun, and very easy. I loved her choice of outfits and each one was accessorized perfectly.
Jenna is a senior at Paul Blazer High School and plans to attend Morehead State University where she will major in Finance. She is a current member of FBLA and KEY Club! Jenna has a wonderful personality and has a great head on her shoulders. I know she will accelerate in anything that she sets out to do! Jenna thanks for a fun day! Baby E was so chill! I so enjoyed our time together. I think he's going to be very smart, because already at 4 months he wants to know what everything is. He was aware of me at all times. She had the best songs, and sounds to get his attention. Melted my heart)

Mom and Dad + 9months

It's hard to believe this little princess is already 9 months old. She has grown up so fast! And I've enjoyed being able to photograph each milestone! M is crawling everywhere and even showing the desire to begin walking already! This session, little miss M was a little sleepy and went easy on me. Today was such a busy day! 1 post consultation, and 4 shoots! I'm pooped, lol.

This little angel is precious to me! She is not only one of my Watch me Grow babies, but also one of my fav little girls. Her mommy and I have been friends for a while. We use to work together! (Those were some fun nights!!)
I remember a couple years ago when I had my first session with mommy, daddy, and Puppy Dog Flynn! They were one of my very first "clients" when I was fresh out of school!
Well, I was super excited when she found out she was pregnant! And I was so happy to be the chosen photographer for little Miss Charlotte! She was one of the prettiest newborns I had ever seen. I can't believe how fast she's grown! She is gorgeous if I must say so myself! She has the most captivating eyes! I've never seen eyes as dark as hers pick up light and reflections the way that hers do! I'm always so happy with her images... And, this session did not disappoint! Char is 9 months now and we had a little play date as the park. Here are just a couple of my fav's so far!

Busy Bee and Her Handsome Bro

I had the honor of meeting the "S" kids yesterday for a fun play date. Mom had asked if we would be using props. I explained at this age I just like to capture the kids being kids. And that's just what we did...
Well Mr. M is 4 and as cute as a button. He is a big fan of his little toy cars. His favorite seemed to be the police cars. They parked and kept guard over our stuff during our shoot :)
Then there's the little sister, Miss J, 16 months, and a busy little bee! From the moment we started shooting she was on the go, full run, almost the entire time. Not to worry tho, I first curled my toes up to keep on the flip flops and then quickly decided it was time to kick them off and chase! I have several of the back of her, because apparently I wasn't the coolest thing at the park to explore that day. haha. But, I assured mom I'd capture "them" and I think I did, running or not...

E, M, C, Encore Session

The girls contacted me anxious to do an Encore session a few weeks ago. The books were full so we had to wait a while, but it was worth the wait. They rocked it out! We shot 95% of our session in the pouring rain. These girls were fantastic. So much fun! We got wet, we got muddy, and I even got stung by a wasp! Incredible!! After they rocked their dresses they put on some comfy country clothes. So cute!!

I had several great images to choose from and it was hard to pick my favs, Believe me!! But here it is... I hope you chickys enjoy your sneak peeks!

What's an encore session??

Created originally for Brides everywhere! But why limit it to brides? Everyone has a dress that they bought for that special occasion! You dressed up, painted the town for that one evening came home and hung it up (or for some of us tossed it in the floor) and it's been hanging there ever since. Maybe you begged your mom for the most amazing homecoming/prom dress you'd ever laid your eyes on, or so humbly purchased the most hideous... I mean "perfect" maid of honor dress that your best friend knew you'd look so stunning in, or maybe you yourself got to be the princess for the day- the Bride! Whatever, the case the dress hangs tucked away in the back of the closet collecting dust and years on it. I mean really, are you ever going to wear it again? Go to Homecoming, Go to Prom, or walk down the aisle to your Prince Charming- and when it's all said and done, why not hook up with an artistic photographer and create some amazing ART!
These unique sessions take place in a variety of unorthodox settings like an industrial park, a back alley, and other urban areas, or choose to trade in the urban scene and get creative in a more natural environment like a field or a lake. Some, might even prefer to be a little more personal and shoot in the comfort of your own backyard, a favorite park your family visited every weekend growing up, or just playing in the mud for a little bit. Encore sessions are designed to trash the dress, drown the gown, or tear up that tux! Whatever your preference might be, Encore is about having a unique experience and one of the most enjoyable photo shoots EVER!

Well I am definitely in full swing for the Class of 2010 Seniors and loving every minute of it!!

I really enjoyed Hilary- she was a joy to work with and had such a fun attitude! It's girls like her that make my job seem so easy. She was a natural! We had a great time running around to all of our little hot spots, even if we did get caught TRESPASSING!!! (I'll remember that forever, thnx haha)

Princess P!

I had the pleasure of meeting Princess P a few months ago for her 3 month session! We had such a great time, Mom called to make an appointment for her 6 month session almost immediately! So, this has been a long time comin! We met in Cincinnati this week for our play day. Little Miss P did great! Handsome Prince

Another fun experience photographing a handsome little prince! This little guy was just 2 days old when we did the first half of his session and 10 days old when we did the last half! He was one of the happiest, easy going little bundles of joy I've ever worked with! He was so happy curling up any way I wanted him! He gave me several smiles and even pee'd on a few of my things. I think he was marking his territory cause I'm sure he wanted to go home with me :) hee hee

Why Does Custom Photography Cost More?

We all know that you can go to the local Walgreen’s and pay a $1.99 for a print - as a client you may wonder why you may pay upwards of $50, $70, $90 for a custom photography print. Photographers hear this statement every once in awhile:

“How in the world can you charge $60 for an 8×10 if it costs me less than $2 to print at x store?”

The truth of the matter is the answer to this question is multifaceted. Much of the cost of a photographic print produced by a professional photographer has a lot to do with the time, equipment costs, artistic vision and reputation of the photographer not to mention expertise and the usual costs of running a legitimate business.

The cost of TIME

Approaching it from a time standpoint, let’s imagine that you have hired a photographer who has work that you love. This photographer is traveling an hour to your destination to photograph your session. Here is an example of a time break down:

session prep time (30 mins - 1 hour, includes equipment and back up equipment checks + vehicle checks)
one hour travel time TO session
15-30 minutes prep time at client’s home
90 minutes-2 hours with client photographing subject
one hour travel time FROM session
30-45 minutes uploading time from digital cards from camera to computer
30-45 minutes time spent backing up the original images
2-5 hours editing time to present you with a diverse gallery of edited images
1 hour prep time getting ready for ordering
2-3 hours time with client for ordering images
1 hour sorting through and checking order
30 minutes-1 hour prep time for delivery
30 minutes-1 hour getting order shipped
any additional phone time or time needed for add on ordering, shipment issues, quality issues

In this example, the time spent per client can range from just under 13 hours to 19 hours - dependent on the photographer’s level of service. This is time dedicated only to ONE session. When the photographer charges $150-$300 for the photo shoot (aka SESSION FEE) you are not just paying for the two hours of session time, you are paying the photographer for 12-19 hours complete time for your session.

APPLES to ORANGES to BANANAS:

Often times clients will mention to their photographer that X studio in the mall/department store only charges $19.99 for an 8×10 “sheet” or they may mention other things related to discount photography chains. The fact is those discount chains make their money on volume, not on customized 1:1 service. In February 2007 leased photography retail space by a rather well known discount department store that started in Arkansas closed down 500 of their portrait studios across the nation? The reason is simple, you cannot make money on 99¢ “professional” prints if you do not sell enough of them. Interestingly enough - those same studios that offer the loss leader packages often charge much much more for their a la carte pricing (as high as $40-50 for an 8×10). The whole reason the big department stores began offering portrait services in the first place was to get you, the savvy consumer, in through their door so that you could spend more money with them in other departments. Your “PORTRAITS” are considered the “loss leader”.

Going to a chain studio, as a consumer, you don’t have the benefit of 1:1 attention for 2 hours at your home where your child is allowed to explore, play and be comfortable in their home environment, nor do you get the experience that many custom photographers are known for or the lovely captures of natural expressions. You simply get a bare bones, “SAY CHEESE” experience. Keep this in mind when selecting a photographer.

Tennessee Wedding

Miss J Photography {Discovery Kids}

Well the only thing "little" about Little Miss L is her size! She is not yet 4yrs old but has the vocabulary and personality of a 24 year old! She is so "grown"! She calls herself Sunshine and says she's a model!We had such a fun session; climbing trees, playing with bubbles and then dressing up in her fancy gown from a wedding she'd recently been in.

Well, I was so excited when Heather contacted me for some portfolio shots!

Models are so fun to work with. They need very little direction and are just there to have a great time!

I knew from the first phone call with H that she and I were gonna really hit it off. Well needless to say, we had a blast! I swear she and I share the same brain! She is such a pretty girl and has the best personality to go with it!!

We ended up with several amazing shots. So, it made it so difficult to choose my fav's!! But without further delay... here are a few of my top choices!!

I love the angles of her legs and her expression in this next one. Funny how this shot came about actually; the sun was in her eyes causing them to water and she needed to look away... Even when she isn't trying, Heather is flawless!

Engagement {MJP}

I headed down to Cincinnati for Scott and Stacy's engagement session this past week! Stacy and I have been friends for 10+ years (even old roomies) But, life had gotten busy and we hadn't seen each other in way too long! When she got engaged, she told me that she couldn't imagine anyone else photographing her wedding. My heart melted! Scott on the other hand wasn't as partial to me... YET! I had heard all about him, but had just never had the pleasure of meeting him. We met for dinner to catch up and allow Scott to see some of my work. When I met him, he definitely lived up to all the hype! He's a great guy and I couldn't be happier for the both of them! Needless to say Scott liked my style! Lotte- 6 months

Well this was my 4th time working with this family. I had the pleasure of doing family portraits of Mommy, Daddy, and Puppy Dog Flynn back a few years ago. Then when little Lotte was born I got to shoot her newborn pics, as well as her 3 month pics. This month we did her 6 months session. I can't believe this little gem! Her smile lights up the entire world! I absolutely adore her! Here are just a few fav's from the session! (it was so hard to choose b/c there were so many fun shots)

Her Grandmom had bought her the sweetest little beach chair so we wanted to be sure to get a few pics with it! And Mom has bought her so many darling little leggings it was hard for me to choose which ones to use! But, I couldn't pass up these bright colors!! A fun shot with Mom and Dad!
